What type of work does the Black Researchers Collective do?
Black Researchers Collective (BRC) is a capacity-building collective of Black women in Chicago taking research to the streets. Our programs are designed to activate and mobilize communities to use research and data to create change across the South and West sides of Chicago and beyond. We aim to advance racial equity by training and equipping communities with research tools to be more civically engaged and policy informed. We do this through four key pillars of our work:
Community Activations: We host Coffee Chats and Community Workshop Intensives with Black communities across Chicago to train folks on how to use research and data to advance racial equity. Learn more.
Research, Evaluation, and Technical Assistance: We partner with organizations around the country to execute their research projects on topics related to Black advancement, equity, justice, and liberation. Learn more.
Grassroots policy strategies for community engagement and advocacy: Our Research in the Streets podcast serves as a forum to discuss how research and data can be used by everyday people in everyday life. By leveraging research and data skills, we can work to increase civic engagement and policy understanding and action in our communities.
Development of a centralized pipeline of Black researchers: The Black Researchers Collective is developing an app to connect Black research professionals around the country! The beta version of our app is set to go live in December, join our listserv to stay updated!
